Origin & Craft
This exceptional coffee is carefully cultivated by over 320 smallholder farmers, working in partnership with PT Musfaha Niaga Mandiri. Only the ripest cherries are hand-picked, semi-washed using the traditional Giling Basah (wet-hulled) process, and sun-dried before final processing in Medan. The result is a distinctive bean with the classic Sumatran “wild” flavour profile and its characteristic greenish-blue hue.
The name Mena Gold reflects its heritage: “Mena” symbolises the connection between Medan and Aceh, while “Gold” stands for its exceptional quality.

Why It’s Special
The Giling Basah process—unique to Sumatra—removes parchment at a much higher moisture content (around 50%, compared to the usual 10–12%). This method creates the signature full-bodied, low-acid, chocolatey profile that Sumatra Mandheling is famous for.
Heritage of Sumatra Mandheling Coffee
Indonesia’s volcanic islands provide fertile soil ideal for coffee. Arabica was first introduced in the 19th century by the Dutch, and Sumatra quickly gained a reputation for producing some of the world’s most distinctive coffees. Despite setbacks from disease and war, Sumatra’s coffees, particularly Mandheling, have remained globally renowned for their bold, earthy cup.
It’s worth noting that “Mandheling” is the name of an ethnic group rather than a region, but the name has become synonymous worldwide with this unique coffee style.
