A Story Rooted in Tradition

The Tarrazú coffee story dates back to 1928, when siblings Manuel and Romelia Rojas were among the first to cultivate coffee in the region. Their pioneering efforts quickly inspired neighboring farmers to replace sugar crops with coffee after experiencing its remarkable aroma and vibrant acidity.

Later, the farm was passed on to Roberto Montero Castro, remembered today as a true coffee visionary. Captivated by the pure air, crystal-clear waters, and rolling hills of San Marcos de Tarrazú, he dedicated his life to coffee cultivation. Known for generously sharing his expertise, Montero helped countless local farmers refine their craft, shaping the legacy of Tarrazú coffee we celebrate today.
